Mission Statement The West Fresno Democratic Club, under charter from the Fresno County Democratic Central Committee, is committed to preserving and fostering the Democratic Party's principles and it's spirit of dedication in support of the rights, liberties and dreams of all citizens of American society, with equality and without exclusion, through education, voter registration and personal participation in the political process in all local, state and national political campaigns and elections for public office and political initiatives and referenda. Our Values We stand for human rights and social justice. We believe in equal opportunity without the exclusion of any citizen or resident. We are committed to the rule of law and public election of governmental officeholders by Democratic process. We beleive that the voting franchise gives us the power to effectuate change and ensure the human rights and social justice will not become subverted by an unjust government as the founding fathers of the Republic had envisioned. We are going to try again next month for a conbined Democratic Club meeting with a Special Presentation. WFDC Pays Tribute to Ms. Lena Horne WFDC Pays Tribute to the LegendaryMs. Lena Horne Lena Horne 1917-2010. Ms Horne was a showbiz pioneer who fought her entire life against segregation. She was especially adamant that she would not perform before segregated audiences of WWII military soldiers. Ms. Horne is a mentor and a trailblazer for generations of singers and performers that have yet to be born. Besides showbiz, Ms. Horne spent countless hours as a Civil Rights Activist. She spoke out & marched on numerous occasions for freedom & justice. Such was the case during her participation in the historical 1963 March on Washington. Ms Horne's greatest oldies but goodies movie classics include: Stormy Monday, Cabin in the Sky, and The Wiz. In the 40's & 50's, she was only offered musical roles because of the simplicity of cutting out her scenes when the movie was shown down south in segregationist states. As the curtain closes on a legend, Ms. Lena Horne was a class act her entire 93 years.
